So with March behind us we have had some great times on the water. from some really funny equestrian vets as well as some children to our regular holiday makers! We have fished hard and had fun doing so. With mostly fair conditions we have had some very good water with temps ranging from 25 deg to 27 deg, which means we still have a lot of Game Fishing ahead. I don't expect we will see the water temps drop drastically in the next month, which means we are in for a late winter and possibly no Sardines again this year. On the plus side, it does mean an extended Game Fishing season. Although fishing has been a bit of a hit and miss, we have had some good numbers of Wahoo being landed all around the 15kg to 20kg mark. The Dorado have slowed down but are still making themselves known to those in the hunt for them off the ships and the deeper ledges. The Yellow Fin have been around and we have seen some nice sizes coming out in the 20kg range, some pushing 30kg! Sadly though we have lost all of our Tuna to Sharks thus far. Seems as though "the Sharks" are better at hunting Tuna than playing Rugby at the moment!!! ... Sorry boys we still support you guys - Sharks Forever!!!!
Bottom Fishing has not been to productive - however we have managed some nice size Rock Cod coming out as well as nice size Soldiers and Slingers. Have had quite a few undersized Yellow Belly Rock Cod out, which we have successfully released to fight another day.
One of the most memorable trips this month has to be a trip with Mark and his son Michael (Age 4) - we had a really great day out on the water with loads of species caught and loads of fun had ... from Mackrel and Maasbunker to Trigger Fish and Rock Cod; we even managed to add a small Wrass and Squid to the mix! Michael was in his element ... if he was not fighting a fish he was up to his elbows in the live-well trying to catch the live bait and asking question after question about what fish it is and can he eat it! He even caught a couple of small Soldiers which ended up in the live-well as well; until he caught a bigger one, then he let the smaller one go...was great to see how much he cared for the fish! Teaching the next generation to fish is an amazing experience for me and I loved every minute of it, and seeing the smiles on his face while catching fish ...... Priceless!
